On August 9, 2016, Mr Benjamin Mutanga Itoe was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC). The election took place during an Extra Ordinary Board meeting in Bota-Limbe under the supervision of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Henri Eyebe Ayissi. It was the first meeting of the recently constituted Board of Directors of the Corporation. After the election, the General Manager of the CDC, Mr Franklin Ngoni Njie took the Minister and Board members on a guided tour to Esuke Section of the Ndongo Banana Estate in the Tiko plain. Mr Njie used the opportunity to talk about challenges faced by the CDC’s banana sector.
According to him, these challenges largely include insufficient irrigation caused by the irregular electricity supply and delays at the Douala Seaport. He later on explained solutions put in place by management to mitigate the effects of the aforementioned challenges. In this light, Minister Eyebe Ayissi promised to do all it takes for the CDC’s difficulties to be addressed in the various domains.
The Board of Directors later met in an Ordinary Session on August 10, 2016. The main point on the agenda was the examination and adoption of the Accounts of the Corporation for the year ended 31st December 2015, audited by the Statutory Auditor-ECA Ernst & Young.
During the meeting, the Board of Directors expressed satisfaction for the clarity of the Accounts. Members of the board of Directors also thanked the government for the ongoing restructuring of the Corporation which has already led to the approval of the Statutes by the President of the Republic H.E Paul Biya. In this regard, the Board called on the Management of the CDC to scrupulously follow up the implementation of instructions of the Prime Minister, Head of Government as far as the CDC’s restructuring is concerned. At the end of the meeting, the Board of Directors adopted the Accounts and congratulated the General Manager for his leadership and requested that the accounts be forwarded to the General Assembly for approval.
