CDC Staff Trained on Human Rights

The United Nations Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa organised a Training of Trainers workshop for some staff of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC). Holding under the theme “Human Rights and Business”, the training took place at the Moliwe Professional Training Center of the CDC from November 8-10, 2016.

Opening the event on the behalf of the General Manager, the Director of Human Resources (DHR), Mr Henry Ikome Becke said “CDC management has put in place necessary measures to enforce the respect of human rights in the corporation at all levels”.

The three day training was focused on topics such as understanding Corporate Responsibility to respect Human Rights, Implementing Human Rights Principles in Business, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Community Ownership as an Indicator of Successful Business Compliance with Human Rights Norms, Designing and Delivering a Human Rights and Business Training. Plus, Things to know on the CDC and Human Rights. One of the participants, Otto Lyonga described the training as enriching and timely. He further said “the CDC does a lot in the respect of Human Rights principles both consciously and unconsciously”.

The General Manager of the CDC, Mr Franklin Ngoni Njie closed the training on Thursday November 10, 2016. He applauded the efforts of the UN Center for Human Rights and Democracy, adding that a follow-up mechanism be put in place to ensure that the training does not end up in the drawers. He expressed satisfaction with the content of the training and hoped that there will be further trainings to explain the Human Rights principles across the corporation.  The main trainer from the United Nations, Mr Fonyuy Kiven Franklin said the center was going to accompany the CDC and the trainers on the field in the win-win partnership before letting them go solo.
