Labour Day in the CDC

Workers of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) commemorated the 130th edition of the International Labour Day on May 1, 2016 in a colourful style.

In Limbe the ceremony took place at the Manga Williams Avenue and was chaired by the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako Mr Zang III under the theme “Social Responsibility of Enterprises and Trade Unions in the promotion of Decent Work”.

The event started with speeches from Trade Unionists who all emphasized their role in the achievement of decent work.  On his part, the SDO for Fako called on Trade Unions to engage themselves in social dialogue with enterprises to achieve descent work. He also congratulated the 38 workers who were decorated with labour medals of honor for their hard work. After the match past at the Manga Williams Avenue, there was feasting between the CDC Board Chair, H.E The Rt Hon Chief Justice Benjamin Mutanga Itoe, The CDC General Manager, Mr Franklin Ngoni Njie and the CDC workers at the Bota Senior Staff (SS) Club. In his address, the General Manager congratulated the workers for the work done so far and urged them to continue to work harder in order to keep the corporation afloat. On his part, the CDC Board Chair congratulated the General Manager for his hard work and successful organization of the Labour Day in the CDC. He said despite the financial crises, CDC will always protect its workers but cautioned that those who will indulge in bad habits will be shown the exit door.

After eating and drinking, the ceremony went into high gear with workers dancing to the songs staged by the Buea Old Timers Band.
