New Agriculture Minister visits CDC Plantations

The new Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Henri Eyebe Ayissi has urged the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) to play a pivotal role in Cameroon’s ongoing efforts to become an emerging economy in 2035.

Mr Henri Eyebe Ayissi made the call during his maiden visit to CDC Plantations on Saturday December 19, 2015. He was received by the General Manager, Franklin Ngoni Njie at the Ndongo Banana Estate where he was taken on a guided tour by the Group Banana Manager (GBM), Mr Ndumbe Johnson. The GBM explained the banana production process from harvesting to quality control and final packaging. He added that the CDC Banana has a good market both at the international and local levels and that the CDC top quality banana has recently been introduced in our local supermarkets.

Minister Eyebe also visited the Tiko Rubber Factory where he was briefed on rubber production by the Production Manager, Mr Wonkam Dieudonne. Lastly, he visited the CDC Palms Nursery in Limbe and was guided by the Technical Adviser to the General Manager in charge of Agriculture, Mr Dissoh Hell, who explained that the nursery produced over 160,000 palms seedlings. He added that small holders buy seedlings directly from the CDC because of their quality.

At the end of the visits, Minister Eyebe called on the CDC to work in synergy with other agricultural stakeholders and research entities like the Research Institute for Agricultural Development (IRAD) in a bid to increase production. He urged the CDC to be innovative and exploit all avenues. He added that the CDC has the capacity to promote and implement second generation agriculture.

On his part, the General Manager, Franklin Ngoni Njie said that the Minister’s visit to the CDC was a privilege and a challenge. He called on the entire CDC work force to be more professional and innovative. “We have taken note of the minister’s instruction.” The state of Cameroon counts on agriculture to be the driver of the economy of this country.
